Sara Filipova is a singer, songwriter, and vocal coach from Vienna. Her voice, rooted in soul, pop and gospel, has developed over years of experimental work into an enormously versatile instrument of expression—at home between her own songs, free improvisation and jazz. Since 2004, she has performed on stages in Europe, America, and Asia, including collaborations with Wayne Horvitz' Electric Circus and the Koehne Quartet, with which the joint album "Merge" (a concept by Karl Ritter) will be released in 2026. As a Vocal Health First Aider and longtime singing teacher, the artist shares her knowledge about the voice with the same passion and dedication with which she herself sings.

Sara Filipova effortlessly blurs the boundaries between musical genres. The singer and composer skillfully draws from many worlds and audibly pursues her own distinctive style. From melancholically beautiful to unambiguously cheerful, Sara Filipova has a gift for telling stories through catchy, sometimes unconventional, and then crystal-clear melodies. Depending on the setting, the artist performs either solo, accompanying herself on piano, or is supported by her band.
In their new project, Sara Filipova and the Koehne Quartet bring together contemporary classical music and singer-songwriter artistry.
Through extensive listening sessions, Karl Ritter carefully curated pieces and elements from the repertoires of both the Koehne Quartet and singer-songwriter Sara Filipova. Works by composers such as Joanna Lewis, Peter Androsch, Hannes Raffaseder, Thomas Pernes, and Michael Radanovics blend seamlessly with Filipova’s own compositions. In live performances, their musical worlds intertwine in real time, creating distinctive and compelling arrangements.
The Viennese duo Fudge Summer calls their music “Sample Free Jazz”: an improvised performance that blends hip-hop, R&B, techno, and avant-garde, in which songs, forms, and soundscapes emerge in real time.
